THE BEACH AT SUNSET COVE COTTAGES

The pebbled beach at Sunset Cove Cottages is perfect for beachcombing around the Cove. Look for richly colored purple and orange starfish clinging to the rocks just beneath the surface, or if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of a Red Rock or Dungeness crab slipping sideways along the Cove’s submerged bottom.

OCEANSIDE FIRE PIT

The fire pit is also a great place to congregate any time of day or night – gather around for a taste of British Columbia cowboy-coffee, cooked over an open flame in the cottage’s enamel pot. The custom-designed cooking grill swings over the embers for a handy homemade barbecue if you’re looking for a true West Coast smoked & grilled meal. A ramble through the woods is a great way to walk off a meal and find out what being away from the city is really like.

SEA KAYAKING

Getting ready to enjoy the day at the Cove. If you’re a kayaker, there’s no place like the Sunshine Coast – we’re a leading destination for kayakers almost year round – and no better place to put in than your own beach at Sunset Cove. Paddlers crossing in front of the entrance to the Cove are a regular sight, and there is no finer way to get up close and personal with oceanic life than in your own kayak.

If you do not have your own vessels, or have never tried kayaking, just let us know and we’ll put you in touch with one of the great companies located nearby in Sechelt or Halfmoon Bay – there are exceptionally fun and confidence-building lessons available for beginners or those looking to dust off their paddles for a skills practice, and guides can take you to some incredible destinations both on the outside shore and through Sechelt Inlet.

WALKING TRAILS

There are many hikes close to Sunset Cove – some smaller shoreline walks or a stroll through the woods along the private road will relax and intrigue you with many BC native plants and the wet greenness of it all. Take the trails for an easy tour of the property and hike to the high bluff to watch the spectacular sunsets. For the more adventurous, there are several lakes and mountains within the area you can hike into – drop into the Sechelt Visitor Info Centre in the Trail Bay Mall or visit the BC Forest Service office on Field Road in Wilson Creek for more information before heading out.

The Coast is also a haven for mountain bikers and there are hundreds of miles of excellent trails in the Lower Sunshine Coast trail system, most well marked and offering a range of either touristy-style mellow approaches or technical challenges and obstacles for the advanced rider. FAMILY + KID ACTIVITIES

Families love the Cove for its rocky, pebbled beach, dinghy launch and protected swimming area in summer months. Bring along a swimming wetsuit and enjoy the ocean in spring and fall too!

10 ACRES OF FLORA

Visitors to Sunset Cove love the lush green foliage – arbutus trees, rainforest ferns, cedars, firs, pines and alders create a variety of coniferous and deciduous flora to frame the glorious ocean view. Pine needles and cones crunch underfoot as you hike the shoreline trails, and tiny plants cling to the side of the creek bed. Eclectic statuary and hidden surprises on the 10 acres add to the flora and fauna of the Cove.

SUNSETS AT THE COVE

Sunset Cove offers plenty of romance if you’re here to rekindle your relationship or get to know your sweetheart better. There’s nothing like a spectacular Sunshine Coast sunset to get you cuddling, or a roasty fire overlooking the beach to warm up the conversation as the stars and moon shine overhead. There are so many beautiful views from and of the Cove that you will never tire of them. Sunset is a great time to be savouring the Coastal setting.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES

Our location is close to dozens of hiking and biking trails, local and Provincial Parks, quaint towns, art galleries, music venues, and so much more that makes BC’s Sunshine Coast such a spectacular place.

Bring your kayaks, canoes, or boat (or rent them nearby) to see the coast, inlets and lakes by water. Or, bring your clubs and play a round of golf on the local links. If you like exploring indoors, the coast is home to many artists who display their work in public and private galleries. Discover the history of the area in the local museums or visit the Chapman Creek Fish Hatchery and learn about spawning salmon. Smuggler Cove Marine Provincial Park is 11mins away and provides camping, hiking, swimming, kayaking and picnicking.

HALFMOON BAY GENERAL STORE

Sunset Cove Cottages are located 8 minutes down Highway 101 from the Halfmoon Bay General Store (general supplies and beer/liquor sales) and the Halfmoon Bay Cafe. Try some freshly made soups, delicious baked goods, coffees or ice cream and walk out to the  government wharf just a few steps away. We are also just 5 minutes away from the Rockwater Secret Cove Resort and Secret Cove Marina. The marina features a floating restaurant with dockside seating, kayak, paddle board, and mountain bike rentals, and both a cold beer & wine and general store.
